FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Medina, OH June 2, 2009: Clay's Park Resort located in beautiful central Ohio was the perfect BIG venue for one of DockDogs BIGGEST National events in history!

If you weren't at this past weekend's Clay's Bark in the Park event presented by Royal Canin, you missed out on one of the most action-packed and nail-biting events of the year! DockDogs brought it all with 2 pools, the first in DockDogs history for a regular National event, a television crew for the Sunday finals and of course this weekend's sponsors, Royal Canin, Cabela's and STIHL.

With over 600 entries this weekend's competition was intense. Qualifying rounds for Big Air saw jumps in the 27' range, and the BIGGEST qualifying jump was Kyle Brown with Boomer with a huge jump of 27'5. Competition was so fierce that just to make it into the Pro Finals on Sunday you needed at least a 24' jump or better as this was one of the highest Pro bubbles in the history of our sport.

With both docks running Big Air qualifying rounds at the same time on Saturday and Sunday it was a "battle of the docks" to see which would have the biggest jumps. "Dock B" spectators witnessed a fun break in the action when one of the dogs decided to jump out of the pool and fetch the toy his handler had accidently mis-thrown. After retrieving his duck the dog then proceeded to jump back into the pool and take a little swim.

Speed Retrieve qualifying rounds didn't disappoint as over 60 teams competed for only 8 spots in the finals on Sunday. The current World Record holders in the sport, Sean McCarthy and his lab Jordan had the fastest time of the whole weekend holding the competition at bay with a lightning speed time of 5.212 seconds.

There was much to see and do at Clay's Park, including informative seminars, wood carving and puppies from the local Animal Shelter up for adoption. All these were great additions to this weekend's festivities, but one of the BIGGEST draws this weekend was the Extreme Vertical Finals on Saturday evening. The BIG crowd gathered round to watch of the most exciting sports DockDogs has to offer. For the first time in DockDogs history Extreme Vertical was run on two separate docks, simultaneously! Spectators went back and forth watching both docks trying to keep up with all the high-flying action.

Since this weekend was a World's qualifier, meaning the winning team in each discipline will be extended an invitation to participate at this year's STIHL Dogs and Logs World Championships in Stillwater, MN, late July, teams pulled out all the stops in hopes of earning an invitation. The hometown favorites of Jeff Wells and his Belgian Malinois, Ares, earned the Extreme Vertical invitation with a impressive jump of 7'2".

For only the second time this year DockDogs held a Youth Handler Final on Sunday, showcasing the young and vibrant talent that DockDogs has to offer. Winning the Youth Handler final was Sarah Simone-McDougall with Lance with a BIG jump of 22'4". Following very closely in second place, with a jump of 22'1", was Taylor Rohrbaugh and Daisy Lou.

Speed Retrieve Finals were up next and everyone knew it was going to be hard to beat the reigning champions, Sean McCarthy and Jordan, but no one realized just how hard. Sean and Jordan impressed everyone with their lightning speed time of 4.968 seconds, taking home first place and an invitation to World's. Coming in second was a team that wins the award for "farthest driving", Lisa Weber and her lab Tractor, making the drive all the way from Las Vegas and clocking a time of 5.695 seconds. Rounding out the top three in this sport was Joey Spurlock and Brock with a quick time of 6.286 seconds.

The Amateur Finals were by far the most intense and had spectators, and handlers, on the edge of their seats with all the jumps being separated by mere inches! Coming in first by only 2 inches was Dale Butler with Ranger with a jump of 18'11". Just barley squeezing into the second place spot was Stephanie Prock and Zoey with a jump of 18'9" and rounding out the top three was Jenny Zoll with her Golden Willow with a jump of 18'8".

Semi-Pro Finals had a mix of veteran DockDogs teams and brand new ones to spice up the competition. Cleaning up the competition was Hoover (recognizing it as his 9th birthday this past weekend), with handler Andrew Fink coming in first with a jump of 22'11". The brand new team of Mark Direnzo and his German Shorthaired Pointer, Timber, had an impressive second place jump of 21'8" and coming in third was the always entertaining team of Steve Bacon and Zeus with a jump of 21'7".

This weekend's events all came down to this last final, with the BIGGEST and best teams of the weekend all competing for the ever coveted invitation to participate at the Nationally televised Dogs and Logs World's in July. The winning team in the Pro Finals is no stranger to World's as they competed in them last year, Pamela Karr with Dart, had the BIGGEST jump of the entire weekend at 27'7"! Following in second place was Andrew Fink and Wilson, who also took home second place in the Iron Dog competition, with a jump of 25'8". Rounding out the top three was Sean McCarthy and Jordan with a jump of 25'5". Sean and Jordan also took home first place in the Iron Dog competition, showing that they are truly an all around amazing team.

Don't stress if you didn't make it out to this past weekend's event as Sunday finals will be televised on Time Warner Cable starting June 6th on NEON Channel 501. DockDogs would like to send a special thank you to Clay's Park for opening up its park to the thousands of DockDogs fans and competitors and also to our sponsors for this weekend's event, Royal Canin, STIHL and Cabela's. We would also like to congratulate all those team's that qualified for World's in July!
